Creartful AIInsightsSearch Console AI reports
Search Console’s new AI reports: what they show and what they don’t.
For two years, AI Overviews traffic sat inside the ordinary Search Console totals with no way to separate it. In June 2026 Google announced reports that break it out. They are a useful step, with real limits.

What Google added.
Google’s Search Central blog introduced Search Generative AI performance reports in Search Console in June 2026. Early coverage describes them as showing how often your pages appeared in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, device and date, with a separate view for AI features in Discover.
What is missing.
At launch, the reports were described as impressions-based: how often your pages were shown inside AI answers, without click, click-through or query detail. Coverage also notes the rollout started with a subset of sites, with wider availability to follow. Check your own Search Console to see whether you have them yet.
Worth knowing
Google’s documentation says traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode is included in the overall Performance report under the Web search type. The new reports separate data you were already counting, rather than adding new visits.
How to read them.
- Look at which pages appear in AI answers, and whether they are the pages you want people to find
- Compare AI impressions for a page with its ordinary search clicks over the same dates
- Use GA4, with an AI assistants channel, to see visits that arrive from assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity
- Add “an AI assistant” as an option in your “how did you find us” field, since some visits arrive without a referrer
What to do next.
Treat the reports as one signal among several. The fundamentals that make a page eligible for AI features are the same as ordinary search: indexable pages, clear answers, accurate structured data and content people trust.
Sources.
Do the reports show clicks from AI Overviews?
Not at launch, according to early coverage. They show impressions. Clicks from AI features are still counted in the main Performance report.
Why do I not see the reports yet?
Google rolled them out gradually. If they are not in your property yet, the main Performance report still includes the same traffic.
Should we change our content because of these reports?
Use them to see which pages already appear in AI answers and which do not. The changes that help are the same ones that help search generally.
