Structured data that matters for search and AI answers.
Structured data tells search engines what a page is about in a form they can read without guessing. There is no special markup for AI answers, but the right markup, kept accurate, helps every surface.

No special markup for AI.
Google says there is no special schema.org structured data you need to add for AI Overviews or AI Mode.
What it does ask is that structured data matches the visible content of the page. Accurate markup helps search engines understand the page, and the same understanding feeds the answers built on top of search.
The types most businesses need.
| Type | Where it goes | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | Home and About | Who you are, your logo, contact details and profiles |
| LocalBusiness | Location pages | Address, hours, phone and area served |
| Product and Offer | Product pages | Name, brand, identifiers, price and availability |
| BreadcrumbList | Most pages | Where the page sits in the site |
| FAQPage | Pages with real questions | The questions and answers on the page |
Since 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for a limited set of authoritative sites. The markup still describes the page accurately; just do not expect it to change how your result looks.
The rule that matters most.
Match the page
Markup must describe what a visitor can see. A price in the markup that differs from the price on the page, or a review score that appears nowhere on the page, does more harm than no markup at all.
Keeping it accurate.
- Generate it from the source. Product markup built from the store’s own data stays in step when prices change.
- Test templates, not just pages. One fix on a product template corrects every product that uses it.
- Validate after changes. Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator catch errors before search engines do.
- Log every change. The changelog records which template changed and what fields were added or corrected.
Is there schema just for AI Overviews?
No. Google says no special structured data is needed. Accurate Organization, LocalBusiness, Product and FAQ markup helps every surface.
Should every page have FAQ markup?
Only pages that show real questions and answers. The markup must match what the visitor can see.
